JAY HOCKENBROCH, Newport HS: The native of Juniata County has been a pillar of the PIAA District 3 wrestling community for more than 30 years. He attended East Juniata High School and won the 1975 PIAA wrestling title at 167 pounds and was recruited to Clarion University where he won a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) and Eastern Wrestling League title as a senior. Jay became an educator after college and started coaching wrestling first at Avella for 3 years then Newport. After six years he moved to Big Spring and became the head coach for the Bulldogs. During his tenures as a head coach, he developed a pair of PIAA champions. Jay spent the final quarter century of his career as an educator at Big Spring and was the athletic director for the final decade.
